This sling is also perfect for nursing on-the-go. You can find a couple of good explanations and videos on the internet as how to get the baby in the best position to feed, but it's basically a matter of loosening the shoulder straps a bit and shifting the baby into place! |
| Weaknesses: |
Requires a bit of experimentation to discover what works best, but one you've got the hang of it there's no limit! |
| Overall: |
This sling has been a lifesaver for mobile and discreet nursing. I've been able to feed sitting on the tube or bus, or even walking along the street, all without removing the baby, and keeping my hands free. I don't think there is anywhere I've not used it! The sleep hood is very helpful for this too, although I usually wear a scarf I can drape over the baby's head for a little extra coverage. |

'*This is a review of the *Ergobaby Performance*
Very comfortable, promotes correct postural positioning.' |
|
| Strengths: |
Excellent back support for parents, plus child's weight is balanced between wearer's shoulders and hips. Very comfortable to wear on long walks.
Great for baby's posture and correct weight distribution when being carried, as baby is essentially sitting with its weight on its bum and upper legs. This is infinitely preferable to the type of sling where the baby is suspended from the crotch (such as Baby Bjorn).
Can we used up to four years or so (depending on size of child).
Lightweight, and good storage (zippered pockets in the sling, and additional pouch available). |
| Weaknesses: |
The newborn insert may not be great for a summer baby, as it is rather like being wrapped in a duvet!
A little fiddly to learn to wear.
Baby can only face you when in the front carry position, so sees your face and can turn head sideways (but this is because of the positioning.) BUT when on your back the baby can see forward.

I love this sling. I had a winter baby so the newborn insert was lovely and snuggly! The Performance is designed to be cooler in the summer than previous models, so while it's a bit warm, it's still comfortable.
The little sleep/sunshade attached is very useful for a snoozy baby, or to protect from drizzle, or if it's very sunny and baby doesn't have a hat.
It requires some fiddling before you get used to it, and it's useful to practice in front of a mirror, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of it.
The carrier will fit a good range of sizes - short size 8 me and over six foot weightlifting husband can both wear it comfortably.
I recommend buying the little separate zippered pouch that clips on - fits a couple of nappies & bags, a few wipes, and purse, keys & phone. The zip pocket in the sling itself fits a muslin and change of clothes. No need for a nappy bag!
You can also buy a rainproof cover, which works very well, lovely fleece lining.
It's not the cheapest, but it is superb quality, and the company apparently has excellent ethical standards, if that is important to you. My baby is very comfy in it, I love that I can talk and sing to her and see her face when I'm wearing it.
I'm very glad I bought this sling! |
